Casting call for new academy

Charlotte Donaldson, 22, set up her own performing arts academy

An all-singing, all-dancing arts academy set up by a recent graduate aims to recruit more performers before it lifts the curtain on its next production.

The Creative Dance and Arts Academy, based in the Kings Langley Services Club, started in September and teaches a range of skills from singing to street dance.

But founder Charlotte Donaldson, 22, is appealing for more children to take part so the group can put on more ambitious performances.

Charlotte said: “With the 12 members we currently have, we are restricted a little bit.

“We would love more people to come along because we really want to create better opportunities and give the children more of a variety of things to do, like musicals.”

Charlotte began working at the club when she moved to the area with her partner, and said she was inspired to set up the performing arts classes by the children who often came in with their families.

She said: “I saw a lot of children coming in with nothing to do and they would always be making up dances and singing on the stage.

“It was clear that they had a passion for performing, like me. I have always wanted to teach so I just thought I would just try and see how it goes.”

The academy, with classes also taught by Casey Ann Bird, is open to children aged five to 16, of ages and abilities.
