Catastrophic five minutes spell defeat for rugby side

A disastours five minute spell saw Tring RUFC throw away the lead against a top four side.

Tom Newton failed to open the scoring with an early missed penalty and drop goal.

It was left to star man Tim Holgate to put the first points on the board against Bracknell with a try just after the half hour mark.

Tom Newton converted to give his side a 7-0 lead.

But three converted scores - two before the break and one after - meant fourth-placed Bracknell turned things around and took all the points on Saturday.

The tries, scored by Kevin McKenzie, Stuart Mackey and Luke Carter, were then added to by another McKenzie score just after the hour.

Tring were left ruing their missed opportunities as the chance of a win faded away, but they salvaged some pride as, following a triple substitution, Nick Radley dotted down.

Tim Wilson's missed conversion meant it finished 28-12.

Tring remain one place above the drop zone in National Three London and SE but with closest rivals Portsmouth winning on Saturday the pressure is on.

They will be looking to cement their spot in the league with victory in their game at home to North Walsham this weekend, kick off 3pm.

Elsewhere at the club the IIs beat Bracknell 59-7 and the IVs hammered Letchworth 62-12.
