CCTV footage of moment Billy was stabbed is shown in court

The CCTV footage that captured the moment murdered Billy Dove was stabbed with a kitchen knife was played in court today (Friday).
The 21-year-old’s family sobbed in the public gallery at St Albans Crown Court as the images were played to Judge Stephen Bullick.
It showed mechanic Billy dash forward on seeing Darren McGrath, 17, suddenly arm himself with a kitchen knife which had fallen out of the hood of his hoodie top.
Fearing he and his friends were in serious danger Billy swung a punch at McGrath but missed. McGrath then plunged the knife into Billy’s chest, which passed between Billy’s ribs, entered one lung, the chambers of his heart and then the other lung.
McGrath pleaded guilty to the murder which happened in Hemel Hempstead’s town centre last November.
Ordering that McGrath be ‘detained at Her Majesty’s Pleasure’ and telling him he will remain in custody for a minimum period of 14 years, the judge said: “Billy Dove was the only child of his parents. He was 21 years old when he died. He was a fine young man who was well liked and hard working.”
Carl Williams, 21, of Barnacres Road, Hemel Hempstead, and Charlie Samson, 18, of St Agnells Lane, Hemel Hempstead, who were with McGrath on the night have pleaded guilty to affray. They are due to be sentenced at a later date.
