It has emerged that Jimmy Savile may have preyed on young patients within Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

A string of abuse allegations have been made about the television personality, who raised millions through his charity work for the Aylesbury-based hospital.

Scotland Yard said it is now following more than 125 lines of inquiry across the country including two allegations of rape and six of sexual assault.

In one allegation, relating to Leeds General Infirmary, a former nurse at the hospital claims she saw Savile, who died in October 2011, molest a brain damaged girl.

A statement released by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Stoke Mandeville Hospital, said: “We are shocked to hear of the serious allegations about Jimmy Savile. At this stage in the proceedings it would not be appropriate for us to conduct our own internal investigation, however we have been contacted by the police this week and are supporting them fully with their enquiries. If their findings suggest that we do need to take further action then we will do so.

“We have advised our staff that if they have any concerns or wish to raise anything relating to the allegations then they should contact their local police force.”
