Comrades have cup final hopes

Berkhamsted FC are hoping that they can reach their first cup final.

This weekend they play host to Mursley United in the semi final of the Division Two Cup. A win will take them to the final where they will play local rivals Aston Clinton.

Micky Vipond, who took over the club when it formed earlier this year, said: "Getting promotion is the number one priority but we really want to get to some cup finals and Saturday will give us a chance to do that."

They go into the game on the back of a 4-0 defeat of Bucks Student Union which sent them four points clear of Aston Clinton at the top of MSSML Division Two, who have played two games fewer than them.

Lawrence Bunker bagged his second brace in succession with Adam Mead and James Armstrong - who could have had a hatful of goals - also on the mark.

Vipond will be without the cup-tied Bunker and his former Pitstone & Ivinghoe team mate Mitchell Hamilton for this week's game against a side Berko have beaten twice in the league this season.

But the Comrades boss, who revealed he has made a seven-day approach for Tring Corinthians centre back Luke Bartlett, believes his squad will cope with the loss and is hoping for another watertight display: "Keeping a clean sheet is the be all and end all for me. For me the 4-0 win was better than the 10-3 one we had a few weeks ago."
