Craft fair success adds a date to school’s fundraising timetable
Boxmoor School fair 2013.
A primary school’s first craft and gift fair, which helped local businesses showcase what they’ve got to offer, is expected to rake in more than £900.
The event – held on Sunday – was organised by Boxmoor Primary School’s parent and teacher association.
One of the organisers, Nicola Casserley, said: “It went really, really well. We had a really good turnout and it was very well supported by the school and local people.”
She came up with the idea after years of visiting craft fairs and running her own handcrafted gifts business called Twinkling Toadstools.
Nicola said: “We had a bit of a tough time lately with the Ofsted and we have got new blood in now so I thought it would be nice to do a fresh event.”
Last summer the Cowper Road school was rated inadequate by the schools watchdog and has since welcomed a new headteacher.
The parent and teacher group is saving the cash raised to put towards a planned outdoors learning area. They will be bringing in more funds with a school quiz night on May 3 and their annual summer fair on July 6. The craft and gift event is expected to become a regular fixture in the school’s diary.
