Delay for new market firm

editorial image

The official handover of Hemel Hempstead’s historic outdoor market has been delayed until February.

Dacorum Borough Council has awarded the contract to run the stalls to Saunders Markets, based in Guildford, Surrey, but there remain contract issues to iron out.

A spokesman for Dacorum Borough Council said the issues were expected to be sorted out by the start of February.

The outgoing operator is Town and Country Markets. The company took the decision for ‘operational reasons’ not to tender for operating the market once our existing contract expired during October. Town and Country Markets has been operating the market on a temporary contract basis since October.
