Detention for sex assault teen

A TEENAGE boy has been sentenced to a 12-month detention and training order after he sexually assaulted two female victims.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was among a gang who approached a 16-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy as they walked home at night back in December 2010.

The girl was sexually assaulted by penetration and both victims were robbed of cash and a mobile phone on Saturday, December 11 at around 10.10pm between Turners Hill and Hillfield Road, Hemel Hempstead.

Two days later, a 19-year-old woman was assaulted – the teen touched her bottom – in Adeyfield Road, Hemel Hempstead.

A short time later she was approached a second time and assaulted in the same manner.

The offender, who was 16 at the time, was sentenced on Wednesday at St Albans Crown Court, having been found guilty by jury on Friday, March 2 of sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by touching and theft.

Det Sgt Sam Khanna from the Beds and Herts Major Crime Unit said: “We are committed to bringing offenders to justice and I would like to thank the victims for their support and bravery in getting this case to court.

“Although crimes such as these are not a regular occurrence I hope the victims find some comfort from the fact the offender has been given a custodial sentence.”
