Dog-walkers warned of rural car thefts

Dog-walkers have been warned not to leave personal items on show in their cars after two break-ins in rural areas.

A handbag containing hundreds of pounds was stolen from a black Mini in North Hill, Sarratt, at around 1pm on Sunday, November 11, after a rear window was smashed.

Chief Insp Catherine Akehurst said: “Leaving your valuables on show like this is an advert to a criminal to break into your vehicle. You may just be leaving your car for ten minutes but it only takes seconds to break in. I’d ask people to take their valuables with them or remove them from show, particularly when leaving your car in rural areas.”

The next day, a rucksack containing gym clothes was stolen from a blue BMW three series in Chorleywood Bottom at around 8.30pm after a rear window was smashed.

Police advise drivers to lock their car doors and windows before leaving, hide away the Sat Nav and its suction marks, never leave behind valuables, use a steering lock, and register valuables at www.immobilise.com to help police trace them if they get stolen,
