Emotional survival for cops
Stressed police are being sent on an "emotional survival" course that trains them to exercise, socialise with others and pursue hobbies outside of work.
Hertfordshire Constabulary is the only force in the country to fund the one-of-its-kind training scheme.
It is based on the book, Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement: A Guide for Officers and their Families by American cop turned psychologist Dr Kevin Gilmartin.
All firearm specialists, dog handlers, control room staff and members of some major crime units are obliged to take the course.
More than 1,000 of Herts police's 2,123 officers have been sent on the five-hour exercise since its launch in April 2007.
