Watching everything from The Jeremy Kyle Show to high opera is one of the ways Eve Stewart went about winning her first Bafta award.

She was given the British Academy of Film and Television honour on Sunday for her work on blockbuster musical Les Miserables.

Previously the 51-year-old production designer, of Kitsbury Road, Berkhamsted, was nominated for Bafta honours for her work on 2004’s Vera Drake and 2010’s The King’s Speech – but lost both times.

She told the Radio 4 Film Programme: “I will look at things all the time. I am not just someone who will look at other films. I will not just look at paintings, I will not just look at opera. I will look at everything, from the Jeremy Kyle Show, OK Magazine, Emmerdale, right up to high opera.

“If you constantly suck things up with your eyes, you are bound to be able to regurgitate them.”

You can hear the full interview by downloading a podcast of the programme from the BBC website – but don’t miss Eve’s thoughts on getting the red carpet treatment at the awards night, pictured left, in the Berkhamsted and Tring Gazette, on sale now.
