A group of housewives have gone wild for Gangnam Style to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

Lizzie Allen and her friends made a parody of South Korean singer PSY’s Gangnam Style – which became the most watched Youtube video of all time in November last year – in the run up to Christmas.

After writing their own lyrics and recording a soundtrack, the 30 women took to the streets of Herts and Bucks to film scenes for what has become another Youtube sensation.

Replacing the words of the South Korean rap with lyrics about cooking, cleaning and caring for their families, the housewives sing “Mop! Mop! Mop! We’ve got housewives style!”

Now they have raised almost £5,000 and 135,000 people have watched their tongue-in-cheek video.

Berkhamsted mum Lizzie Allen, who produced the video, which also includes appearances from her husband Matt and two children Chloé, 17, and Ben, who is 15, said: “I had no idea it would become such a massive success so quickly.

“We were all so busy in the run-up to Christmas that we just bunged it online and sent it out to all our friends.

“In just one day we had 10,000 hits.

“People from all over the world have watched it and what’s really funny is that we’ve got a following in Alaska.”

Viewers can donate to Breakthrough Breast Cancer through the Justgiving site the housewives have set up and they are hoping to raise money though advertising on Youtube as well.

“As a group of friends it’s quite a dear cause to us as two of the ladies have had breast cancer,” said Lizzie.

“We wanted to do something lighthearted and fun and also raise money and awareness.”

Former GP Sue Francis is one of the stars, and has been a breast cancer patient.

She said: “We really wanted to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer as they fund 25 per cent of the research on breast cancer done in the UK.

“It’s so important to find a cause and improve the treatment because the treatment is so debilitating.

“The video could have gone badly wrong but it has been so well received.

“It’s so much better than I’d expected and I’ve been very pleased and proud to be part of such a great idea.”
