Gearing up for a bit of a delayed re-opening in Tring

PARCHED punters who were told their pub would re-open two months ago may have to continue quenching their thirst elsewhere.

The Bell in Tring High Street was supposed to open in May following a joint investment of £80,000 between Spirit Leased and new licensee Mike Gearing.

But work on the new kitchen and toilets has taken longer than originally thought and problems with a leaky roof have delayed the re-opening further.

Mr Gearing said that he was hoping to open towards the end of the week but couldn’t confirm for definite, saying that he wanted the establishment to be at its best for his customers.

It is the second time the pub, which has had a troubled reputation in the town, has had a change of management within the past year.

In December landlord Craig Henderson moved in to turn things around after it was closed following a burglary when masked raiders forced their way in and took valuables.

A man has been charged and two others have been bailed in connection with the aggravated burglary, which happened on November 27, 2011 between 1.45am and 1.50am after the annual Christmas Festival.

Matthew Kelly, 36,of Parkside in Milton Keynes has been charged with burglary and false imprisonment. He has appeared at Hatfield Magistrates Court and has been remanded in custody.

Two other men, a 27–year-old man from Aylesbury and a 40–year-old man from Milton Keynes have both been bailed to return to Hatfield Police station on Friday, July 27.
