Green worker’s pedal push for Barnardo’s
An environmental advisor decided to take her regular bike ride to work to a whole new level.
Hanna Hayward, who works for Hemel Hempstead firm BAM Construct, cycled from St Albans to Richmond in Surrey, to raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s.
The 23-year-old covered 80 miles in a day and was joined by eight colleagues for the ride, part of a nine-leg relay between the company’s offices in Edinburgh and Exeter.
Hanna, who is based at offices in Breakspear Park, said: “My job is all about minimising BAM’s impact on the environment, and that includes initiatives to reduce reliance on cars.
“I cycle to work across Hemel every morning, taking advantage of BAM’s green mileage policy, which allows staff to claim the equivalent cost of petrol if they travel by bikes.”
Andrew Waddington, Jason Barnes, Mike Hinson, Andy Clark, Marc Sacks, Peter Simms, Alan Newland and David Carter also took part in the St Albans to Richmond leg.
