Conkers clashed in their hundreds as crowds descended on Boxmoor on Sunday for an annual festival.

The Box Moor Trust’s popular conker festival returned at the weekend to see one triumphant person become overall champion.

The winner in the adult competition was Paul Stafford who beat Peter Lockyer in the final.

The junior competition was won by Amy Merrick.

Also present at the festival on Blackbirds Moor in Hemel Hempstead were the Berkhamsted Bowmen who were hosting have-a-go archery sessions and the Dacorum and Chiltern Potters Guild were holding workshops.

The Jolly Jazzers performed on the day, raising money for the Hospice of St Francis.

A trust spokesman said: “We did wonder if people would turn out again after the success of our Wood, Wool and Food festival on Saturday.

“Despite the colder weather we had a good turnout once again and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Once again the competition was fiercely contested.”
