Inquiry that could lead to thousands of more homes in Dacorum is about to begin
A public enquiry into how many homes should be built in Dacorum is due to begin tomorrow (Tuesday).
Dacorum Borough Council has drawn up a core strategy to build 11,300 properties in the area by 2031.
It would include 8,800 new homes in Hemel Hempstead, 1,180 in Berkhamsted, 480 in Tring, 200 in Markyate, 130 in Bovingdon and 110 in Kings Langley.
The plans are part of a scheme to provide enough homes for a growing population – and the government’s Planning Inspectorate will have to approve the proposals.
It is part of a 2006 to 2031 home-building strategy – but the council’s figures include many homes that have been built already.
Development firm Grand Union Investments has suggested an alternative plan for Berkhamsted, which includes building 800 homes on land it owns near the A41. This would be on top of hundreds of homes that have been built in Berkhamsted since 2006.
The Inspectorate will consider both sets of plans in detail from Tuesday to Thursday this week and next.
On each day the plans for Dacorum will be publicly discussed in the Bulbourne Room of Hemel Hempstead’s Civic Centre from 10am to 5pm, with a break for lunch between 1pm and 2pm.
