A group of school pals have been meeting twice a year for the last 40 years.

Since 1972, Jim Lyne and 14 of his friends – all former pupils of the now closed Corner Hall Boy’s School – have been getting together. The Crabtree pub in Leverstock Green Road has been hosting their reunions for the last four years.

Jim, 75, said: “It’s just as if we’ve never left. It’s like we are back in the same class.

“It’s difficult to explain but when we meet every year it feels just like it used to.

“It was a lovely school. The thing that was good was the discipline which I think is missing from schools these days.”

After leaving school at the age of 15 Jim went to work at the paper makers John Dickinson and then completed National Service in Surrey before returning to Hemel Hempstead.

Jim said: “I am a Hemel person born and bred but so many of our other former classmates now live abroad in Canada, Australia and New Zealand it makes it difficult to do a reunion of the whole school.”
