‘Lecherous’ man, 32, preyed on schoolgirls
A ‘lecherous’ man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a schoolgirl during a sleepover at his home, organised by his girlfriend’s teenage daughter.
Raymond Findlay, 32, of Flatfield Road, Hemel Hempstead, was sent to prison for six months for the attack, which left the schoolgirl so distressed she ran into the street in her nightclothes and barefoot to seek help.
On Friday. St Albans Crown Court heard how Findlay would often buy alcohol for his partner’s teenage daughter and her friends when they came to spend the night at the flat they shared.
During one of the parties on July 23 last year, drunk Findlay put his arm around the girl and forced himself on her, kissing her and touching her breast.
Managing to break away, she ran from the flat and into a nearby road where she was able to flag down a motorist, who Judge John Plumstead praised for taking the youngster home.
He said: “Any parent whose child was in distress would hope they would fall in to such decent and caring hands.”
The court heard via a victim impact statement that the girl had difficulty coping following the assault, which had left her nervous, mistrusting and struggling at school.
She had also been torn from her circle of friends.
Despite being convicted by a jury of two counts of sexual activity with a child, Findlay refused to accept he had done anything wrong, which Judge Plumstead said gave him no option other than to put him behind bars.
The second count of sexual activity with a child related to an incident involving another teenage girl during a sleepover in January 2011.
Judge Plumstead told Findlay: “Parents let their children go for sleepovers because they expect their children to be cared for and not be subjected to a predatory lunge by a 32-year-old man.
“It was a selfish, lecherous act from someone who had no proper regard for boundaries between adults and children.
“You still will not accept responsibility for it – the only thing you may have is a straightforward punishment.”
Findlay must serve a minimum of three months in prison, at which time he could be released on licence.
He is banned from having unsupervised contact with children under 16, unless permission has been given by social services ,and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.
