£1,000 bursaries will be handed out to help students meet the cost of their education thanks to the will of a noted Berkhamsted chemist.

Berkhamsted Town Council has agreed to launch a fund to administer Alan Dickman’s £10,000 request.

They are aiming to provide £1,000 bursaries for applicants who plan to study pharmacy or pharmacology at university or train to become pharmacy technicians.

But the money will only be available to people who live or go to school in Berkhamsted.

Mr Dickman died in 2007, aged 92, four years after retiring from the historic High Street chemists shop which still bears his name.
