Old folk at a sheltered housing scheme in Hemel Hempstead say they have been given a fresh lease of life from a new ‘living wall’.

People at Gilbert Burnet House in Long John, Bennetts End, have posted pictures, articles and memories along an entire corridor covering all the decades since the time of Dr Burnet, who was Apsley’s first councillor and founder of Lincoln House Surgery.

Resident Doreen Pearce said: “It’s given us all a new interest. Instead of sitting in our flats we’re looking for things to put on the wall.”

Warden Leisa Baker said: “Everyone who comes in starts talking about it. There are new pictures going up all the time.

“It makes them people with a life, you don’t just see people as being old.”
