A BUSINESSMAN from Marsworth was sentenced to 15 months in prison last Thursday for not paying more than £400,000 of tax and national insurance.

Stephen Ledsham of Long Marston Road didn’t pay any tax on more than £1 million of earnings in an 11-year period.

It was a joint operation by HM Revenue and Customs’ criminal taxes unit and the British Transport Police that uncovered his scam during the time he ran a company called Kallbond Ltd.

The 49-year-old set it up in 1992 to provide planning services to the rail industry.

He got contracts through an agency but dissolved the company and didn’t tell the agency, which continued to pay his fees.

He also provided the agency with forged company documents in an attempt to hide his fraud.

Mr Ledsham pleaded guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court on Wednesday, May 30, to fraud by false representation and to two counts of failing to notify HMRC that he was liable for income tax, national insurance and VAT.
