Shoppers got a helping hand from charity bag packer for the day – Mayor of Dacorum Bert Chapman.

The councillor was not afraid to get stuck in to raise funds at Marks and Spencer in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, on Saturday.

His efforts were rewarded with donations from customers raising £516.83 for Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice.

The good cause is the mayor’s chosen charity during his year in office.

Mr Chapman said: “People were so generous, they were going out of their way to come over. This is the spirit we have in Dacorum and Hemel Hempstead. They appreciate what Iain Rennie Grove House does.”

The fundraiser was organised by charity stalwart Martin Crowhurst.
