Memorial restoration
Thousands of pounds have been set aside to restore a village memorial to its former glory.
Bovingdon Parish Council has called in historical experts to restore the Ryder memorial in High Street.
The Grade Two listed structure was erected in 1881 in memory of village resident Granville Dudley Ryder.
The magistrate, who died in 1879, was a well respected benefactor of the village.
It is believed that iron railings, once part of the structure, were removed as part of the war effort and over the years an additional plinth has been added.
Council clerk Mike Kember said: "We want to get it as near as possible to how it was originally."
A total of 5,000 has been put earmarked for the restoration from the council's budget for 2010/11.
Experts from the world of heritage have been called in to help plan the works.
