MORE than 100 people took part in a village’s second annual 10k run.

The Gaddesden Gallop started in Little Gaddesden on Sunday, took joggers through the Ashridge Estate to Nettleden, and then back via Hudnall and past the Amaravati Buddhist Monastery.

The winner was Owen Byrne, 47, from Tring, who got around the course in 40m 44s. The first woman to finish was Kelly Hill, from Berkhamsted, who completed the race in 48m 25s.

There was also a 5k race, which was won by Fred Kelly, 15, who lives in Little Gaddesden.

Before the races, Julie Turner led a work-out for the participants.

The event was compered by Radio 2 presenter Nigel Barden, 53, who lives in Hudnall Common.

Sarah Brown, a race organiser, said: “It is a whole-village event. Everybody gets involved in the community.”

Even the 1st Little Gaddesden Scouts sold tea and cakes to finishers.

Gazette reporter David O’Neill took part in the 10k race and completed it in 50m 20s, more than 15 minutes faster than when he did it last year.
