NHS shake-up to 'improve quality'
A single primary care trust in charge of health services in Hertfordshire is to be formed.
West Herts Primary Care Trust (PCT) and East and North Herts PCT will merge to become NHS Hertfordshire on April 1.
Health chiefs say running the two organisations costs an extra 500,000 a year, though they have shared many staff including the chief executive since they formed in 2006.
Anne Walker, chief executive of the PCTs, said: "I am pleased that the majority of local and countywide organisations gave their support to the merger.
"We have challenging times ahead and this decision gives us the platform to explore new innovative ways of working with others, making the best use of our joint resources to improve the quality of services for patients".
Stuart Bloom, currently chair of West Herts PCT, has been appointed chairman of the new organisation.
