No planting on Tring Park grass
Plans to plant oak trees in the shape of a diamond in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee have been delayed because a new spot needs to be found.
The Woodland Trust wouldn’t allow town councillor Stephen Hearn to plant the trees in Tring Park as the grassland is protected because of the rare insect species which are found on it.
Woodland Trust spokesman Paul Hetherington said the trust would be happy to help Mr Hearn find an alternative location for the trees, and supported the project.
She said: “We have also had to turn down film directors who wanted to film large horses running across it.
“Oak trees create a large canopy, which would also have an impact.”
