Phones problems persist
Damaged cables have knocked out phone lines across the borough.
A fault between Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Luton has left many phones with a constant engaged tone and knocked out the internet in some cases.
It is thought the lines went down on Tuesday lunchtime.
BT says a broken cable is probably to blame for the fault and engineers are working to fix the problem.
BT spokesman Paul Haywood said they had no idea how long it will take to resolve.
The extent of the problem is not yet known but it seems residents in the towns can make outgoing calls to numbers outside the towns but people trying to call local numbers from within the areas, from a landline or mobile, cannot get through.
The Gazette and HeraldExpress has also been hit by the problem.
