PUPILS at Abbot’s Hill School are being offered counselling to help them come to terms with the death of Zoe Miller.

Zoe lived at George Street in Berkhamsted but was a student at the Hemel Hempstead school.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of the 13-year-old, who is believed to have fallen from the Ivy House Lane bridge onto railway tracks in Berkhamsted on April 23.

Pamela Maynard, head of Baird House at Abbot’s Hill, said: “The school community is deeply saddened by the death of Zoe Miller.

“Zoe was a delightful girl. She was friendly and thoughtful, very bright academically and a promising sportswoman with a wide variety of interests both in and out of school. She played a key role in our recent BBC School Report and also represented the school at cross-country. She will be greatly missed by staff and pupils.

“Counselling is being made available to pupils and staff to help them at this difficult time.

“Our thoughts are with her family and we send them our sincerest sympathy and support.”

Zoe’s mother Jane works in international development for the UK government and spent years in Africa promoting education for girls.

Her father Rob is a scientist working in Welwyn Garden City.

Police are still trying to piece together Zoe’s final moments and are appealing for anyone who might have seen her.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Det Insp Andy Rose of the British Transport Police said: “Zoe has left behind a distraught family and we want to be able to tell them exactly what happened.”
