Pupils slamdunk their way to the top

A team of girls bounced, dribbled and ally-ooped their way to the top of a basketball competition.

Year 7 students at Bridgewater School, in Berkhamsted, were crowned the winners of the annual county basketball tournament at the end of last month.

And, two team members- Saphire Mackenzie and Olivia Richardson- have since been selected for the county squad.

The team represented Dacorum in the competition after beating Hemel Hempstead and Cavendish School.

The finals were held at Wodson Park, in East Herts.

To get to the semis, the girls thrashed Presdales School, in Ware, by 7-4.

In a tense final the team went up against Greneway School, of Roytson, who they beat 12-6.

The team's coach, J Ridgewell, said: "This is a very pleasing result considering Bridgewater does not have a basketball court- just a small hall and they play all of their matches away."
