Roads contractor Ringway due to field concerns at full council meeting

A showdown between highways contractor Ringway and Herts County Council is due to take place next week.

It is not known whether questions during the session on Tuesday will be directly targeted at the road repair company, or whether it will simply be in attendance to hear more criticism of its services since receiving a formal early warning notice in January.

Ringway admitted its performance in some areas had not been good enough after an open letter from opposition leader Stephen Giles-Medhurst outlined 15 areas of weakness.

The multinational company only took over the Herts highways contract in October.

It says it has now deployed 50 per cent more people on the ground, an additional 80 staff to carry out repairs and five extra gangs to deal with street lighting.

Despite this, Ringway admits it may still take until June to get its service up to the expected standard.

The meeting starts at 10.30am in the Council Chamber at County Hall, Hertford.
