Roundabout advertising plan branded ‘dangerous and unnecessary clutter’
Visitors to Berkhamsted won’t be welcomed by the ‘dangerous and unnecessary clutter’ of advertising if the town’s leading planning committee has anything to do with it.
Herts County Council wants to build four signs each on the two roundabouts drivers pass on their way to the town from the A41.
The signs would bear the council’s name and logo and the words, ‘County of opportunity.’ There would also be a space for companies to advertise their name and logo.
But at a meeting of Berkhamsted Town Council’s planning committee on Monday, councillor Garrick Stevens said: “Object! Object! Object!”
The committee agreed that planning permission for the signs should be refused.
Chairman Laurence Handy said: “The proposed signs would be heavily distracting and represent dangerous and unnecessary clutter on both roundabouts.
“The money would be better spent on more worthwhile projects.”
