Students through to next round

School pupils kept law and order by winning in the first round of a mock court competition.

Students of Tring School, Mortimer Hill, Tring, beat off three other schools to win their local heat at St Albans Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

A team from each of the schools acted out a case involving possession of a bladed instrument playing both prosecution and defence.

English teacher Anastasia Nicola said: "The competition is about students assuming different roles from lawyers and magistrates and prepare a case from scratch like real lawyers and barristers would do.

"It is a huge boost to the students' confidence and for all of us to get that hard work recognised.

"The students are very excited to get throught and represent the school. They are all 13 or 14 years old and it is a big deal to be in a court and assume some very complex personas."

The students will go to Northampton Magistrates' Court on May 8 for the next round.
