Sue gives back...again
A woman has become the first lady to hold the position of chairman twice in a citizens association's 85 year history.
Susan Johnson was officially named chairman of Berkhamsted Citizens Association (BCA) on Thursday during the organisation's AGM.
She is one of only five women to have held the position but the first to have done it a second time.
Mrs Johnson, who has lived in Berkhamsted for 28 years, said: "It's a great honour and a great responsibility in these rather challenging times.
"I am a long-term resident of Berkhamsted and therefore wanted to give something back."
The BCA is the biggest membership organisations in Berkhamsted and has around 600 members.
However, Mrs Johnson, a mother-of-two, said one of her first jobs as chairman will be to try and recruit new members.
"Membership is always an issue for us. We would like some new blood with new ideas and enthusiasm to join," she explained.
BCA is a civic and amenity society which puts issues and views concerning its members to the relevant authorities, whether it be proposed planning developments or transport infrastructure in Berkhamsted.
At Thursday's AGM Berkhamsted history expert, John Cook gave an illustrated overview of the past 30 years of the Environment Award.
Mr Cook spoke because the annual award- which recognises the best developments such as new builds and open space improvements in the town- was cancelled because of a lack of 'quality'.
At the end of the meeting an open forum was held and it was agreed the BCA would be more assertive, and even a little controversial, in putting forwards its members' views in future. To become a member of BCA call Christopher Talbot Ponsonby on 01442 865882.
