'There will be fewer flats here'
Plans for flats and houses have been scaled down after strong opposition from neighbours.
Hightown Praetorian and Churches Housing Association (HPCHA) wanted to build two blocks of four one-bedroom flats and two two-bedroom houses next to Broadfield Primary School.
But after a report in The Gazette last month, HPCHA has agreed to downsize the development, which residents described as "prison like".
The housing association now proposes to build four two-bedroom houses and one block of four two-bedroom flats on the site in Windmill Road, Hemel Hempstead.
Bosses from the house building firm met with those living near to the planned development and Councillor Keith White last Wednesday (August 26) to finalise plans.
The homes will replace run-down garages, which HPCHA's planning application described as a disused "eyesore, a source of vandalism and nuisance".
The new homes will be part of a shared ownership scheme, where people can part-buy and part-rent homes.
HPCHA spokesman Emma Crump said: "This will help people who cannot afford to buy at market value."
The proposals are subject to approval by DBC, who owns the land.
