Thomas the tank Tring's engine

Phil Casserley said this week that his Tring Athletic FC side need to not lose another game if they are to be in with a shout of winning the league.

And they got their 11-game run-in off to a flying start with a 4-0 drubbing of Haringey, who recently have hit form.

The boss reserved praise for his back four, especially "awesome" centre back Henry Thomas, whose form gives the gaffer hope that the title may not be out of their reach just yet.

"We are defending so well and that's what makes me think we are still in with a chance" he said.

"Henry Thomas has found his fitness and form and has been our best player over the last 10 games.

"If we carry on playing like we did last night we will go close."

On a tough pitch and under low lights in North London, the men in red were out the blocks quickly - Chris Salmon heading in Ashley Addison's free kick with just eight minutes on the clock.

It was Addison who set up the second as well. Another free kick was glanced into his own net by a Borough defender an hour in.

Salmon capitalised on Tring's domination as his shot took a wicked deflection and went in before subs Matt Myatt popped up to smash the ball home from the edge of the box for number four.

Marshalled by ex-Berkhamsted Town skipper Thomas, the Tring defence held firm for a well-deserved clean sheet.

Casserley, who labelled the display "absolutely outstanding", will be hoping for a repeat at home to St Margaretsbury on Saturday. See www.tringtoday.co.uk for how they get on.
