Thousands of potholes in one week

Highways chiefs say they have received an incredible 2,000 pothole reports in a single week.

Herts Highways says it is using 'all the resources we can' to fix craters but until the weather improves potholes will keep appearing.

Stuart Pile, cabinet chief for highways and transport at Herts County Council, said: "With temperatures still regularly dipping below freezing overnight, roads across the county continue to be damaged by the protracted winter weather.

"Our crews are working hard to make repairs, but until there's a significant improvement in the weather we're going to keep seeing potholes and cracks appearing on our roads at a rapid rate.

"In one week alone we received 2,000 reports of potholes."

He added: "I appreciate residents' frustration at road conditions but ask for your understanding as we continue to do all we can to tackle the immense amount of damage."

Faults can be reported on 0300 123 4047 or online at www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults
