A family fun day put on in memory of a couple’s new born daughter has raised £3,560.

The cash will go to Keech Hospice Care, which helped Daniel Kerr and Samantha Charlies-Kerr look after their baby during her short life.

The event was held at Cavendish School in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday – the day before what would have been baby Lexi’s first birthday.

Daniel said: “It was quite stabilising for us because it was going to be a really emotional weekend and we had a lot of support and love from people around us.”

She was transferred to the hospice shortly after being born because complications meant the little one would not survive.

Part of the fun day included a five-a-side football tournament involving 12 teams, which was won by Doves United, a team formed in memory of murdered Billy Dove.

A barbecue put on by the Old Bell pub in Hemel Hempstead’s Old Town helped boost funds, Olympic bronze medal winner Max Whitlock was there to help pick the winners of a prize-draw for a free carpet and fitting provided by Hemel Hempstead firm Joe Phillips Carpets and an auction at the Old Town’s White Hart during the evening, along with two live bands, raised £850.

Luton company CES Electrics, who sponsored the whole event gave an extra £200 to the pot and Hannah Mernagh, who is doing a skydive this weekend, gave £500 to the hospice from her sponsorship.

The family has so far raised £9,000 in Lexi’s memory through the fun day and other fundraising events and it is now planned that the football tournament will become an annual fixture.

Daniel said: “It is just an incredible amount.”

People can still donate in Lexi’s memory at the Keech Hospice Shop in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead.
