Top marks for young judo club

Energetic youngsters have won a top judo shield for the fourth consecutive year.

Pupils at Broadfield Primary School went up against schools across county in the Hertfordshire Schools Judo Association Junior School Award.

They have held the first place position since 2007, which is unprecedented in contest's history.

Headteacher at the Windmill Road school Matthew Heasman introduced the judo club seven years ago after he was approached by Roy Smith from Hemel Hempstead's Bury Judo Club.

Mr Smith had a grandchild at the school and felt teaching the martial art would benefit youngsters.

The winning squad was Ryan Wilson, Oliver Jordan, Tyler Davis, Nathan Hansford, Jamie Swann, Jack Boughton, Liam Trill-Green, Jamie Klyen, Jessie Haggerty and Molly Jones.
