Tring in Transition blog: 30.7.09
So – Dacorum have consulted us on plans for Tring for the next 30 odd years.
Or so they say. I think the consultation is a disgrace.
The display in the Victoria Hall was pathetic, and the officers present were not up to speed on Tring issues.
The questions on the questionnaire were also loaded.
Instead of asking "Do you want any housing built on the Greenbelt" we were merely given a choice of two Greenbelt developments – A & B. No chance to say we did not want ANY development.
In fact the Dacorum plan shows that 310 houses can be built inside the present town boundaries and I believe that this is sufficient for future 'natural growth'.
No evidence has been given to show that any development of 150 houses in the Greenbelt is necessary for future growth.
Perhaps Herts CC are just short of money and need to sell some land for housing?
We should be trying to protect the existing Greenbelt round Tring and should resist any attempt to build on it.
We should also try and protect the farming land round Tring – we want this available for food production, not housing and factories.
We need a little extra leisure space, but that can be obtained without building, and in any case would not use up much farm land if it was properly planned.
There is for example privately owned land that forms part of the Miswell Lane recreation area – why not buy this and plan a completely new leisure area for Miswell Lane?
Apparently the owners of the Icknield Way field now used for the Canal Festival are happy that part of the field is used for extra football pitches.
Their plans to sell of the whole area as housing plots for a future development 40 years away will be difficult to achieve – so presumably they would be happy to have some income from the field?
Dacorum needs to start thinking carefully about Tring and put some real effort into proper plans for our future.
Tring Town Council have been told by Cllr Tiley that we are ignored by Dacorum because Tring voted for the wrong party – it is about time this attitude changed.
