Shoppers were asked to buy an extra item and donate it to a troops festive shoebox appeal at Tesco.

Supermarket staff at the Tring store asked customers to be generous for the Support Our Soldiers Christmas Parcel Appeal.

It is a cause that is close to the hearts of workers Jane Stainforth and Denise Young who both have sons serving in the armed forces on the front line.

Enough goodies were donated to fill around 40 shoeboxes with seasonal treats.

Services manager Robbie Taylor said: “Some customers brought in shoeboxes and then we had donations throughout the day that we then put into shoeboxes.

“We collected quite a lot so the reaction was quite positive.”
