Two teenage girls were taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after hurting themselves while sledging.

Paramedics called in firefighters to help with the rescue at Gallows Hill Lane in Abbots Langley on Monday just after 2.30pm.

Ambulance crews from Berkhamsted, Garston and Watford attended.

East of England Ambulance Service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “Both girls received back injuries and following treatment, stabilisation and immobilisation by paramedics at the scene, they were taken to Watford General Hospital for further care.”

Yesterday morning the ambulance service issued a warning urging people to stay safe while playing in the snow.

Crews were called to several sledging accidents across the region over the weekend, where children and adults had suffered broken bones or head injuries.
