Video: Adeyfield School students put on a prom for Dacorum Mencap

Waiting for Video...

TEENAGERS pulled out all the stops to put on a glitzy prom for Dacorum Mencap’s volunteers and clients.

Year 8 youngsters at Adeyfield School threw the bash after being set the challenge as part of a project in partnership with good cause Connect Dacorum.

The scheme has been running for three years and sees challenges presented to students by charity bosses. Youngsters then bid for the one they want to take on.

The Dacorum Mencap project is the first of six challenges to be completed.

Tickets were sold to the prom at £10 each. The 12 to 13-year-olds used the cash to splash out on a bar, compere and other things to make Friday night’s event a hit.

Head of citizenship at the school in Longlands, Hemel Hempstead, Emma Street, said: “I know people say this all the time but they were absolutely incredible.”

The other challenges that Year 8 students are working on are making signage for Sunnyside Rural Trust’s Hemel food Garden, designing and making toys for children with severe learning difficulties at Woodfield School, turning £50 into £500 for Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice, recording articles, sounds of the local area and collecting memory sticks for the Hemel Social Centre for the Blind and designing and providing 250 T-shirts and caps for children that Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted rotary clubs are taking to the Paralympic Games.
