A new flat in Wigginton is one small step for a plan to boost social and affordable housing in Dacorum.

The two-bedroom shared ownership property in Fieldway is one of two flats at the development. The other, upstairs at Warranty House, is being sold on the open market.

Steve Cannon, chairman of Wigginton Parish Council, welcomed the opening, He said: “It’s good for the village. We’re discussing having another housing needs survey at the next parish council meeting to see what else Wigginton might need.”

Dacorum Borough Council, which bought the flat, is inviting local people to apply for shared ownership of it.

Applicants must have a connection to Wigginton, be a first-time buyer and earning less than £60,000.

Councillor for the area, Rosemarie Hollinghurst said: “I’m so pleased that this home is now open and that Dacorum Borough Council is supporting affordable housing in Wigginton.”

The opening of Fieldway is part of the borough council’s plan to boost social and affordable housing. Planning permission was recently granted to build the borough’s first new council homes in more than 20 years in Gadebridge, Hemel Hempstead.
