'We never realised Tring was so busy'

A shoe repair shop has seen a boom in business since it hopped to a new location.

Trade at Tring Shoe Repairs has stepped up since it moved from Western Road to High Street, Tring, in November.

Owner George Harrison, 62, has been busier since the 28-year-old business moved to the corner of the Akeman Street, opposite the Motorist Centre.

His wife Alana, 50, said: "We have lots of new customers and lots of passing trade. We never realised Tring was so busy.

"Since we have been there we have had the bay window open, which was blacked out before, so now people have a nicer view as they walk down the street."

Mrs Harrison, who also manages the reception at the Milton Keynes Citizen newspaper, said she works longer hours with her husband in the shop because of the rise in custom and increased range of products, which includes haberdashery and wool.

"We are getting on very well, except that he keeps asking me to call him Mr Harrison," she said.

Mrs Harrison said she is pleased the building has returned to being a shoe repairers.

"It was a chemist for years and years, but we found out it was a shoe shop around 140 years ago."

She assured customers that when they go on holiday, Mr Harrison will still leave the funny signs in the window he is well-known for.

"We would like to thank everybody for their continued support."
