Woman of 49 died without warning after feeling unwell

A WOMAN of 49 died suddenly of an inflammation of the heart after feeling unwell, an inquest heard.

Herts Coroner’s Court was told Johanna Bungey, of The Orchard in Kings Langley, had no medical history that would explain her sudden death on March 17.

The court heard Mrs Bungey’s daughter alerted a neighbour, who moved her from the sofa to the floor and carried out CPR before paramedics arrived and she was taken to Watford General Hospital.

Coroner Edward Thomas said Mrs Bungey had had a flu-like illness in 2004 and 2007 but added: “There was nothing that would explain a sudden death.”

A post mortem revealed the cause of death was myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart that can be caused by a virus but it is not generally fatal.

Mr Thomas, recording a verdict of natural causes, said: “It’s usually nothing but it can be fatal. She was not an elderly person.”
