Tring parking rule re-think could boost business

CAR parks with both long and short stay bays have been scrapped to stop motorists getting caught out and fined for parking in the wrong area.

Scores of visitors to Tring who have used The Forge car park have found themselves forking out £25 fines for parking in the wrong bay despite having paid for tickets.

Council parking spokesman Janet MacDonald said: “We are aware that the system of split long and short stay bays in some of our car parks does cause confusion with some drivers.

“As a result from Sunday, April 1, some of the Dacorum Borough Council-managed car parks that have separate sections designated to long stay or short stay parking, including The Forge in Tring, will be amended to any length of stay throughout the car park to make it easier.”

High street lingerie business owner Danielle Dawson said: “In the past I’m sure shop owners have missed out on business because my customers say they would shop for longer but they don’t want to risk a car park fine.

“It seems like a minor thing, but so many people complain – it is a big issue.”
