Tring was put on the music map on Sunday night when DJ and music producer Duke Dumont was revealed as the new name at the top of the UK charts.

His dance tune Need U (100%), featuring female artist A*M*E, knocked PJ & Duncan’s Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble off the top spot in the UK singles chart.

Duke, real name Adam Dyment, said: “It feels good, because the hard work has finally paid off.

“I’ve been doing this for quite a long time and it’s not often a music producer gets a song at number one, so there’s an underdog mentality there.”

Originally from Harrow, Adam moved to Tring three years ago to escape the bustling capital for somewhere calmer, and his secluded studio at home is where the number one single was born.

“I needed some peace and quiet so I could concentrate on making music.

“I spend my weekends away and they’re pretty crazy, so I need to come back to a place where I can be productive and achieve that balance.”

Adam, who has been producing music for six years, said Tring’s Chilterns charm means he does not have to be part of a collective London scene. He said: “I really like it here.”

Adam, 30, has played gigs all over the world, including across Europe, Japan, the US and Australia, and is a well-established name on the DJ circuit.

He has 25 to 30 remixes to his name, including Bat for Lashes’ Daniel, the Mystery Jets’ Two Doors Down and more recently Haim’s Falling.

But it seems it is not the promise of fame or fortune that drives Adam forward, but the chance to work with new and unknown artists.

His record label Blase Boys Club was formed earlier this year, and the music mogul says it is easier to work with artists who are just starting out.

He said: “You get more creative freedom with new artists – working with a more accomplished singer means there are more restrictions on what you can do.”

“To me, it’s not about making a quick buck, but about making the best music as possible. I still want to be producing music in 10, 15 years time.”
