Tring salon owner says business is booming as she looks to reshape portfolio

A Tring hairdressers and spa says business is booming, even if a nearby business owned by the same entrepreneur is finding life more difficult.

The owner of the High Street shop numbered 35A has applied for planning permission to change the use of the premises – currently home to fashion and accessories store Tribe, and previously the base for Diffusion Hair Studio and Day Spa – so that it can be used for businesses supplying professional and financial services rather than restricted to retail use.

Tring Town Council has objected to the plans, fearing the unit could become home to another estate agents, which they believe could be damaging to the town’s retail sector.

Karen Adams, who owns several businesses in Tring, said of Diffusion: “We are a very busy salon and we do very well.

But of the premises currently occupied by Tribe, she said: “We are trying to pass the lease on of one of the other shops to another party, just because at the moment it’s unsustainable.

“Retail is very difficult and for the businesses as a whole, it would be better for us to off-load it to somebody else and have more diversity within the town.”

Diffusion used to be based in number 35A, but has since moved to the larger unit at number 39.
