A BUSINESS is back on the boil after a six-month break.

David Metcalfe, who owned The Green House on Tring High Street, has cooked up a new business venture called Cafe Anusia.

Mr Metcalfe, who owns neighbouring hardware store FW Metcalfe & Sons, reopened the outlet as a vegetarian cafe and cookshop on Thursday, June 16.

He said: “I wanted to go more to a day-time operation.

“I also have quite a big building and to utilise that just as a restaurant would have been very difficult.”

Mr Metcalfe closed The Green House in December, despite a nomination for a Vegetarian Society award.

He said: “It did not matter how good the quality was, it just did not seem to work. A lot of people loved the place but we could not make it work.

“It just seemed to be an uphill battle. It was losing money and hard work as well.”

Mr Metcalfe’s new shop’s name comes from a nickname for his Polish wife Ania and he is currently learning the language.

The new business has made more room in the hardware store, after the cooking department was moved.

Mr Metcalfe said: “It means we can expand our hardware DIY and gardening and have a lot more space to display the products better. It will make our shop a lot nicer place.”
