No Caption ABCDE
There’s a touch of cool Steele being brandished at Sunday’s Herts Jazz Club session at Welwyn Garden City’s Campus West.
The Nat Steele Quartet are the guests, and jazz fans will be sure to want to sample the renowned vibes virtuosity of the foursome’s leader
Though only a recent arrival on the scene, Nat has quickly gained a reputation as a cutting-edge performer, and although his playing is beautifully lyrical and melodic it always with a focus on a hard driving swing.
He’ll be joined by Leon Greening on piano, Mark Taylor on drums, and brother Luke Steele on bass.
The quartet have been playing together regularly for the past three years, and in that time have developed a close and exciting musical rapport based around a shared obsession with swinging bebop, hardbop and mainstream jazz.
Their repertoire is partly based on the set that vibes legend Milt Jackson toured during the 1990s and includes swinging Cedar Walton and Mike LeDonne tunes, with a fair sprinkling of the quartet’s own arrangements of standards and blues.
Tickets are £11 in advance, £13 on the door and £8 for members, with students and the U21s paying only £5. You can book online at www.hawthornetheatre.co.uk.
